my 2002 mini cooper speedometer along with a number of trouble lights are going on and off.   car still runs ok. any ideas?

you have bad gauge clusterCustomer if you had proper scanner that dealers use you can diagnose this in 5 mins.

thanks will do, if this is the problem i will accept your answer someone else had posted in a mini site that the battery may need to be replaced. and to disconnect the battery to "reset" things. what do you think?

there talking about hard reset to reset ecm u can try it, but still think its your cluster sir. good luck

I was driving home from work and the speedometer went to zero. Additionally, the air bag, engine check, parking brake-on, tire pressure alarm, anti-skid system off lights all went on at the same time. Car continued to drive normally.

Drove it yesterday. Speedometer started working again and most of the lights went off (not all)

A few moments later, speedometer quit working again, dash board illuminated like a Christmas tree etc. Cycle continues to repeat itself.

not a bad cluster after all. problem was chafed wires under abs module. with this problem, all communications with the car modules could not be established even with the dealer troubleshooting computer.
