97 f150: v8..first start in am temp rises..drops..blows cold air

97 f150 4.6 v8 code w upon first start in am temp rises normally and heater works great . then temp slowly drops all the way back to cold and heater blows cold air. then temp slowly rises but climbs to danger zone. ithen turn off engine and coast a short distance and start up again and everything is perfect. it never does it again til next morning. please help
