Resolved Question:

My car makes a clicking noise when I push down on the brake. It sounds as if it is right under the shifter.

The clicking that you hear under the shifter is the shift lock solenoid actuating back in forth. What this does is when the vehicle is in park if the brake pedal is not pressed it keeps the vehicle from going into gear on accident. It is only suppose to do this on initial start up so that means the solenoid has an internal failure. On most models this can only be changed with the entire shifter assembly.
