1998 Buick Century: Replacing..the drivers side window regulator

Replacing the driver's side window regulator on a 1998 Buick Century. Just looking for the proper installation instructions on how to do so. Thank you, Forrest.

Here are directions, including removing the door trim panel:


door trim panel:

  1. Remove the door latch trim plate (coupe and sedan front doors).
  2. Remove the ashtray (sedan rear doors).
  3. Remove the seat belt retractor cover (coupe and sedan front doors). Use a suitable door trim panel removal tool to release the clip retainers
  4. Remove the door lock trim plate and the power window switch, if so equipped.
  5. Remove the window regulator handle by removing the inner retaining clip, if so equipped.
  6. Remove the remote mirror control, if so equipped
  7. Remove the trim panel retaining screws
  8. Remove the door trim panel using a door trim panel removing to work loose the retainer clips.
  9. Detach all electrical and remote mirror controls, as required.



window regulator:


  • Remove the plastic sheet water deflector.
  • Remove the window-to regulator bolts by raising the window far enough to gain access to the bolts through the door metal.
  • Raise and securely tape the window in the full up position.
  • Detach the electrical connector.
  • Remove the mounting bolts and remove the regulator from the door.
  • If the motor is to be replaced, simply unbolt the motor from the regulator.
  • To install

    1. If the motor is to be replaced, install the motor to the regulator. The motor can be installed with the regulator in any position. Tighten the bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
    2. Install the regulator to the door and install the mounting bolts. To ensure proper orientation of the window regulator to the door, it is very important that the window regulator bolts are tightened in the specified sequence. For a left side door, tighten the bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm) in the following sequence. On a right side door, the sequence is reversed.
      1. Lower Right
      2. Upper Right
      3. Lower Left
      4. Upper Left
    3. Attach the electrical connector.
    4. Carefully untape the window and lower the glass far enough to gain access to the bolts through the door metal. Tighten the bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
    5. Install the plastic sheet water deflector
