My car is chugging mainly when I accelerate but sometimes

Resolved Question:

My car is 'chugging' mainly when I accelerate but sometimes when deccelerating. There is also a smell of petrol. What is the most likley cause? I am hoping it is something simple I can fix myself as I cannot afford to go to the mechanic at the moment.

What kind of car?

Check engine light on?

Customer: replied 8 years ago.

1991 Mitsubishi Magna 4 cyclinder EFI

Engine light? Not sure what you mean. The battery light does not come on. (Had alternator fixed 6 months ago as it used to come on. Has been good since then)

It sounds like your car is missing, if you havent replaced your spark plugs and wires lately now would be a good time. If it misses cold or up hills more this is most likely your problem.

I will go and test it up some hills and see if it worse.
