98 Chevy: engine running..brake pedal stop switch engaged..lamps

Customer Question

98 Chevy Pickup L/T hazard/turn signal relay clicks all
the time when engine running, except when brake pedal stop switch engaged. ( turn signals both okay, hazard switch okay)- I checked all lamps, cleaned stalk switch; possible rusted grounding tiepoint somewhere? I am clueless, and looking for a suggestion. I also substituted a known good relay click unit. I have a
background in electronic repair, have a
good digital meter, and know how to
troubleshoot wiring and circuitry. I just
need to know where to start. I also have all the service schematics in the
factory manuals.

I have seen a bad multi-function switch cause this, drawing power through the flasher but not transfering it to the lights. Easiest way to check is to plug in a good one and see if it works.

Reply to Ted G.'s Post: I will get back with you, and let you know if
that could be the problem. Thanx for the fast
response. This might take a day or two, we are
having a storm, and a power outage may be close.

I checked with the local dealer, and all three auto parts stores. ITS a DEALER ITEM ONLY. I
guess someday I will have to hit the junk yards.
But I want to pay you for the response. I still
don't think it's the stalk (multi-function)switch, and I may never know. That's why I tried
to clean it with spray electronic cleaner. It just seems that the switch is ok, because when I
hit the brake pedal stop switch, it quits clicking. This is not really a safety issue, because everything works; it justs drives you
crazy, listening to that constant clicking while
you are driving. Until I find it, the blower fan
will be on high speed, and the radio will be up.
Thanx anyway.
