If you have some mechanical experience, some automotive hand tools, and a jack and safety stands, you can probably replace the shocks yoruself. Go with aftermarket shocks. They are essentially the same as the OEM shocks and a lot cheaper.

Here's the replacement procedure from Cadillac:
graphic
  1. Raise and support vehicle on frame contact type hoist, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
  2. If left strut is to be replaced, disconnect ELC height sensor link.
  3. Reinstall two wheel nuts to retain brake rotor, then remove stabilize shaft mounting bolt at strut, if equipped.
  4. Remove brake caliper as outlined, then secure aside leaving hoses connected.
  5. Loosen, but do not remove, knuckle pivot bolt at outboard end of the control arm. Support outboard end of control arm with a jackstand to slightly compress spring. Jackstand must be of adequate strength to support vehicle weight and be properly positioned to prevent personal injury.
  6. Remove upper strut rod cap, mounting nut and insulator.
  7. Slowly remove jackstand to relieve spring pressure, compress strut by hand, then remove lower insulator.
  8. Rotate strut and knuckle assembly outward, remove pinch bolt, then separate strut from knuckle.
  9. Reverse procedure to install, ensuring strut is fully seated with tang on strut bottomed in the steering knuckle slot. When the suspension is fully assembled, torque bolts to specifications.

Thanks Larry this really helps. One after market provider mentioned having conversion assembly parts for the strut. The cost was only about $5.00. Would you recommend I purchase this or will I get all the parts I need with just the strut?
Mike
I'm not sure what you mean by conversion assembly. Some Cadillacs with air ride suspensions are very expensive to fix when the air bags rot out, and can be converted to conventional struts with springs.

On your car, I would think all you would need would be the replacement struts. Monroe or Gabriel brands should be fine.
