Reverse..a few seconds and finally it will move forward..sitting

I put in in drive and nothing happens... i have to put it in reverse then in drive again and wait a few seconds and finally it will move forward. The car has been sitting for at least eight months without having been started.

First, Make sure the transmission is full of fluid. Most cars require the engine to be running to check the automatic transmission fluid.
If the car is full of fluid then you will need to have a technician take a look and see if all it needs is a new screen and fluid change.
It could be a more serious problem but check the little things first.
