I just got a backup camera for my 2010 but it is very hard

Customer Question

I just got a backup camera for my 2010 but it is very hard to get to the backup lights can I hard wire the camera to the cigarette lighter with the monitor and just plug it in when I WANT IT ON?
JA: What's the exact make and model of the camera? And can you guesstimate how old it is?
Customer: PLCM4700 JUST GOT IT
JA: How long has this been going on? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: I AM JUST NOW HOOKING IT UP
JA: Anything else you want the electronics expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: if I CAN DO THE HARD WIRE COULD I PUT AN OFF-ON SWITCH?

Hello, my name is***** to Justanswer! Give me just a few minutes to look up some specifics, I'm working on this now.

Absolutely, as long as there is 12 volts, the camera will work. The only reason the instructions want you to use the backup lights, is that when you put your car in reverse, it will power the camera. It is the exact same thing as if you plug it into the cigarette lighter.

Good thinking on the work around!
