I have a dnx5140. I cannot upgrade the firmware with a disc.

Resolved Question:

I have a dnx5140. I cannot upgrade the firmware with a disc. I have tried several, but I always get "disc error" and the disc ejects. Any suggestions? This is the Garmin software update.

Thanks for stopping by.

Please make sure you are using THIS FILE for the Garmin update - but you should also be sure your Kenwood unit is up-to-date with the latest firmware as well.

CLICK HERE for that - then try the Garmin update again.

Let me know what you find.

It appears your burning software may be set up incorrectly.
Or you have not decompressed the zip file?

Have you followed THESE INSTRUCTIONS?

Also - when you burn the disc - slow down the speed for less errors, and be sure you are using supported media(CD-R/RW or DVD-R/RW). It may take a little longer - but these units are much more finicky than a PC reader with a large buffer to handle errors.

Yes, I followed the directions. I burned a new disc with the speed set at 8x, which is the slowest and it still says "disc error". It will play a dvd with no trouble, just not the upgrade disc.

what type of disc are you using?

And are you using a burning software like NERO?
Or using the windows utility and sending it directly to the disc and burning the files?

If you are using burning software - it may be writing an initialization track that the radio does not like.

I'm using a memorex cd-r and the autoplay cd burner on my pc.

and you have unzipped the downloaded file?

I'm running out of ideas quickly.

Neither the Garmin NOR the Kenwood updates are working?

If you put the cd back in your PC - are you able to see/access the files?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
yes, I can see the update file on the disc. I do not understand why it will not read the cd, but will read a dvd. I do not know what else to do.

The only way to update is via the optical drive...

Have you tried a different medium?

Some disc manufacturers have different thicknesses that some lasers will not pick up.

Try a different manufacturer - or if possible try on DVD.

I will try a dvd, thanks
