Is there a difference between "earned" income and "compensation" income? Example would be money paid for landscaping a business destroyed by the Flood of 2011.
Insurance proceeds paid to you for loss of income would be taxed as they money is for income replacement.

But monies paid to replace damages are not taxed as income.
