I hired a plumbing company in BC to plumb my new house I was building. They took 6 months to finish the job making excuse after excuse for randomly showing up here and there costing me to have to buy extra home builders insurance and having to reschedule my other contractors again and again. When they finally showed up to finish the job, they turned on the water. They had obviously not done the pressure test as the pipes burst in the ceiling and sprayed water into the newly installed insulation and drywall. The plumbing company immediately shut off the water and repaired the problem with the pipes. After my insistence that they send someone to replace the insulation and drywall they grudgingly did so, but provided no explanation or apology for their negligence. I have paid $45,500.00 for vague invoices that they’ve been sending me since September. I have asked for details of what I’m actually paying for, but they say that this would be impossible. Now, they have sent me another invoice saying that I still owe them $5,000.00 for 38 hours of work and materials, and once again they can’t actually tell me what the materials are and how they came up with 38 hours labour, which I know never happened. I’m afraid that they will send me to a collection company and ruin my credit if I don’t pay it. What should be my next move?
