My 12 year old son has been expelled from school. A girl brought a 10mg CBD gummy ( not confirmed by school) they still cannot confirm. My son ingested one, as kids were curious my son told another that if he wanted one to go ask "girl". This is what the school called " drug trafficker " and grounds for expelling him.

Trip was last Monday. The kids invested on school property at around 1030 am and at 830pm we received a call that he needs to be picked up. No issues we picked him up in the morning and the other two were sent back aswell. The school notified all parents at the school that 3 kids brought and consumed drugs.

I keep reading this over and I just don't understand. Your son ended up eating one of the gummies and then your son told people that if they want one they should go to the girl and for that reason they decide to expel your child whom they are saying is a drug trafficker? This is in real life in Canada?

Is it a private school?

this is a private school and yes that is what happened from everything we were told in our exit meeting with the school. They cannot confirm what substance was given to my son.
1- son was given gummy from girl who said it was thc
2- somone else asked and my son said, "if you want one go see jordyn"
3- for that reason the principal stated to us that that falls under drug trafficking and he has to be expelled.
My son is 12
The school Also sent several emails to the entire school and parents outlining that 3 kids brought drugs to school and ingested them. Confirm wrong. Devon's name was used in email to all, that he is kicked out and the rcmp have been called on him.
A- not confirmed what they even took, teacher confirm this that it may be anything from a thc gummy to a 10mg CBD dog treat. They don't know. I will be drhg testing my son to see what he was given.To complicate things further my wife works at the school and thus he is the only student out of the 3 that does not pay for school fees thhs no financial imlactI am concerned and want rectified the fact they came to conclusions on no evidence there's was talk initially that he might had been offering this "gummy" but those were not the facts given at the time.
They have publicly shamed my kid and family and definetly ostracized him for this event.
We are seeking help in getting a public alpology and explanation and if it proceeds much longer and if drugs are found in his system we want to go for damages to Devon and the family.

Here is the answer to your query. Please do not hesitate to ask any follow up questions related to this response and know that I will respond as soon as I can.

First, I don't agree that there is no financial repercussions because if you send your son to another private school you will have to pay for these fees so there is a financial component.

As well, this school actually not only defamed your son but released private confidential information about a small child to the entire school body. If I were a parent of another child in that school I would remove my child knowing that the school did this. This is a huge, huge breach of their duty of care that the owe your child.

I suggest that you retain a lawyer and you consider suing them for significant damages. This can harm your child's reputation. It can harm your child's ability to get into another private school. If it's on his permanent record and he applies to a university in the US this could actually be seen by them because they do take the high school permanent records into account and this would be there.

But it can also harm your son's self-esteem and his emotional well-being. It is a horrifying story in my view. So I suggest that you retain a senior lawyer that specializes in education law in your city.
