Hi, I was in an abusive relationship about 3 years ago. I'm wondering if there's anything that can be done if all or some of his victims would be willing to come forward with their stories. He is extremely mentally, physically and sexually abusive and is a threat to young girls in my area.

Lawyer's Assistant: I just need to ask a few clarifying questions so that the Lawyer doesn't miss anything. To start, what state are you in? It matters because laws vary by location.

I tried to get a protection order put on him when I left him, but the police wouldn't do anything. There is a police report though. As far as the other girls, I know some have also filed reports against him with nothing done by police.

There are both civil and criminal options available to you. The criminal option you have attempted - calling the police and asking them to arrest him. One may not be enough, but if enough girls called, they can charge him for harassment or sexual assault. The girls will likely need to provide their own evidence and oral testimony though as there are normally minimal evidence in these type of situations, so the oral evidence and credibility of the witnesses are key.

Civilly, while the bar is lower for liability, it is harder to prove damages. You need to show that his actions have caused you financial harm - i.e., you suffered mental and physical health effects due to his abuse, and you are unable to get a job or lost a job that you already have.

The criminal path is free, the civil path will cost you money to retain a lawyer.

Okay, I have photos of everything he did to me and my property too, I also have witnesses on my behalf. I was on anti depressants and anxiety medication for approximately 3 years due to his actions and I'm still taking sleeping pills because I can't fall asleep on my own anymore.I also suffered through addictions while dealing with the trauma that he caused me as well I don't know if that makes a difference at all

In that case, I would recommend you do both the criminal and the civil path. Locate a civil litigation lawyer in your area and ask for a quote. Do be aware that civil litigation is extremely expensive and sometimes cost prohibitive.
