So when it comes to ODSP, there is a general requirement that the recipient report that income to his caseworker. A recipient can earn up to $200/month without any change to his ODSP payment and every dollar about that reduces his ODSP payment by 50cents.

If they learn that your brother made more than $200/month when he was collecting ODSP and that he did not disclose it, ODSP could write him a letter and request that money be paid back by reducing his current ODSP payment, or for him to pay them back over a period of time.

If he was making $1000/month, the first $200 is excluded and only the $800 is counted. 50% is $400, so they could request repayment of $4800 ($400x12months) give or take.

First, they will review his matter and make a decision as to whether to seek an overpayment and, if warranted, removing him from the program. If that happens, there is an appeals process where he can seek what’s called an “internal review”. There is then another appeals procedure after that.

If they do take away the benefit, there are a few chances for him to have that decision changed.

Cross that bridge if it even happens. Usually they’ll just ask for the overpayment back.

You can travel outside of Ontario for up to 30 days. Anything over that amount and there is a general requirement that you report it to the caseworker. If they find out you travelled more than 30 days without permission, they could seek the return of any money paid out.
