My aunt is 86 living in her own home. My uncle is 87 and a long term care facility. They have no savings and have income of approximately 3,700.00 per month. Long term care expense are 1750.00 per month leaving 1,950.00 to my aunt to live on and pay household expenses. Since Feb. 26th my aunt has taken 1,250.00 in cash out of the bank, she cannot explain what she has done with this money. She uses a credit card to pay for groceries, booze and gas. Last month the credit card was 1,000 and then there are the household expenses such as hydro, oil, car insurance, cable ect. She pays cash for handyman services which she claims is not much but far less than the cash she cant explain she is taking. I feel she is financially incapable, how do I proceed?

Myself and her son, who lives in the US, have power of attorney and have placed ourselves on her joint bank account to enable us to see what is being spent. I log onto the account every month and pay the bills. We question her about all the cash she is withdrawing her as to what she is doing with it, she seems unaware of how much she is taking and cannot explain where it is going.

No I don't think so, I am trying to determine if we have reasonable concerns to declare her financially incapable.
