Over the course of about a year and a half, I have had a colleague who made remarks with a sexual inuendo about my clothing and body. An example is he said, "This is the shortest skirt I have seen you wearing and it really shows off your legs. You should wear it more often. Then on 7 January 2020, he came into my office to wish me and a colleague in the office a happy new year. He kissed her on the lips, to which she replied startled, "Ooh! On the lips!". I immediately thought I didn't want to be kissed on the lips but before I could say or do anything, he kissed me too on the lips. Since then, I have had reoccurring nightmares of the moment and have had stress and anxiety when I see his emails. I finally gathered courrage on 20 January 2020 to tell my HR about the incident but I did not file a formal complaint, fearing I might lose my job since this particular colleague wields a lot of power where I work. On the 11 January 2021, I filed a formal complaint. I learnt also that two other colleagues filed a complaint against this same gentleman; one also involved sexual touching and harassment. The other complaint I do not know what it is about. Where I work sent me a letter saying that they have hired a lawyer and a mediator to conduct an investigation and if I wish, to talk to the mediator. Should I talk to the mediator? Should i seek legal council? … read more
