As an overseas asylum claimant who wants to be resettled in Canada. you need to get a referral for resettlement through the UNHCR (UN High Commissioner of Refugees) office in a country which should not be your home country.

If UNHCR does refer you for resettlement, you will be eligible to be sponsored through a private group sponsorship.

In order to make a claim as a convention refugee, you have to be outside of your home country and demonstrate that you cannot return due to a well -founded fear of persecution based on race, religion, political opinion, nationality or membership in a particular social group such as gender or sexual orientation. To make an asylum claim, you must be outside of your home country and be seriously affected by civil war or armed conflict or been denied basic human rights on an ongoing basis.
