I am so sorry to hear of your husband's passing.
No, his Canadian passport does not need to be returned. You can destroy it if you wish but it becomes invalid after it's expiry date. His citizenship papers also do not need to be returned or destroyed.
I would advise that you should keep these documents in the event you might need them to claim the spousal share of his government benefits such as Canada Pension Plan.
