I am sorry for your loss and for this difficult situation.
Are all 5 brothers co-executors?
The brother cannot renounce without leave of the court since he started to act.
And it's not always possible to get leave because the brother is now responsible for his actions and potentially liable to the other beneficiaries.
Really the brother should first find out if one or two of the other brother's will agree to act and then if they will ask all for their consent.
Otherwise he may find himself stuck.
Does that make sense?
