Hello, The interface for my just answer account was inoperative until now. Here is the information that I think you will need, based on what I have been reading.
The woman is 29, soon to turn 30. Was born in Alberta and is currently still resident there officially.
Her mother took sole custody of her when the girl was 11. There is presently no contact with the biological father. Her relationship is she views me as her father, that is on an intellectual, emotional and when needed financial level. Her desire is to have me legally adopt her.I am 62; single, living alone and born in British Columbia, where I am still resident.
I have known the young women for a very long time and she really is like a daughter to me. Intellectually, mentally and when neded I helped her financially. My desire is to adopt this young woman. Her mother is supportive of this decision. Her mother is a resident of Alberta.
Reading through the requirements for adopting an adult in Canada has left us wondering if this could ever be possible for us. British Columbia seems to only allow for the situation of a former foster child being adopted whereas PEI simple states an adult may adopt a competent adult. Is there somewhere in Canada where I could legally adopt the young lady who wishes to be adopted by me and is extremely competent.

I was of the opinion I would also need to be resident of Alberta. Am I incorrect in my conclusion?
