I don't see that there a grounds for suing the bank. She is an adult and they have no way of knowing she has a mental illness. They raised her credit limit automatically but relative to others the credit limit is very low. The raised it because she was making the minimum payments and so was acting responsibly as far as they could see but of course also they want the business.

They give students in university credit cards with no income at all. So their goals are obvious. But they aren't unlawful.

I don't think your sister can sue the bank successfully at all. I would say there is no chance.

Of course that is true. But she gave permission. You said she doesn't remember she applied or agreed to the increase. But she did.

She could not get the credit card without applying.

She would have received a call that came automatically from some staff of the credit card branch that called after the time came up for her to be made this offer. She was made an offer. It didn't happen out of the blue.

In fact one of my kids got a similar call the other day. I heard the whole conversation. The account comes up automatically if the payments are made each month and they are offered an increase in the limit. Then they can decline or agree.

They will have the conversation recorded for sure. It is not going to be an out for your sister. I can assure you.
