If this is not honoured, I would recommend that your boyfriend deposit a recourse against her ex for the full agreement. The teenage children should be brought in Court to testify which is far, far from ideal, but if this means providing a commencement a proof it could be an option to consider.

Not an uninteresting proposition, but far from what was agreed. It would depend on the force of the witnesses, the children: will they clearly testify that there was an agreement for 200 000$? If not, taking the offer could be pertinent if there is no other commencement of proof.

For such a large decision, it could be pertinent for your boyfriend to meet a lawyer to review what strategy is best for him.
