Customer Question

Is spousal support based on partner's gross or net income?
JA: How long was the marriage? Do both parties earn roughly the same amount of money?
Customer: 6 years. Wife earned nothing during this time.
JA: Family law varies by state. What state are you in?
Customer: Alberta, Canada
JA: Anything else you want the lawyer to know before I connect you?
Customer: Do you have a Family Law Lawyer who is an expert in Alberta Law? Also, what is the cost?
JA: You just pay a $5 deposit now and the rest only when you get a reply from the Family Lawyer. All of this is 100% satisfaction guaranteed, so you can get a refund if you're not happy for any reason.

Hello! My name is Debra (formerly known as Legal Ease). Thank you for your question. I'm reviewing it now, and will post back again shortly.

I am sorry to hear that it sounds like you are in a difficult situation.

Did the spouses live together first and if so for how long?

Are their children?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
No, we did not live together before marriage. One child in the equation. Not mine, but 11 years of age at time of marriage to her mother.
Customer: replied 2 months ago.
No, by text only for now.

Are you an expert in Alberta, Canada family law?
Expert:  Debra replied 2 months ago.

I am a senior family lawyer. I am in Ontario but not Alberta. The law is essentially the same in both provinces. I have been answering questions about Alberta family law for 9 years on this site. There are no lawyers from Alberta on this site.

Do you want me to go ahead or not?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
No live phone call. Can we continue communicating here?
Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Will not go ahead. Thanks anyhow.
Expert:  Debra replied 2 months ago.

We can most assuredly continue online. I am not offering the call. The site is. I am sorry for the confusion.

Can I provide the answer? I've been a lawyer since 1985 and the question is really very basic for me.
