Looking through my emails, I found a notice sent to all condo owners back in January 2020 stating that effective January 1, 2020 the condo board can recover the corporations deductible from an owner for damages that originate in or from the owners unit to a maximum of $50,000. It also says that a deductible cannot be charged back to an owner in cases where the damage arose out of:… read more

We have been stonewalled, delayed and shut-out by Intact
Hi We have been stonewalled, delayed and shut-out by Intact Insurance (representing us) on a case of water escape from our apartment condo that damaged the unit below us. We have been belatedly served with a $10K bill from the condo board's insurer, naming us as "RESPONSIBLE" for the leak and declaring the $10K as their insurance deductible ( An investigation concluded that we were NOT RESPONSIBLE or negligent but rather that it is a building issue, as the particular hot water radiator that burst in March 2019 had burst two times prior to the latest event. Our own insurance with Intact includes the Water Escape rider. Naturally we expect Intact to cover the $10K demand (providing it is legal, which is a real question) In the six months since the incident Intact has delayed, gone silent and generally not communicated with us. Our policy expires in November 2019. We fear that Intact is plotting to string us along until the policy expires, then leave us without protection against the insurance claim. How can we make Intact expedite the issue to conclusion befote policy expiry? Thank-you Will Travis Calgay AB [email protected] shaw.ca(###) ###-####… read more
