While it is true that in most cases you would only share in the increase in value of the assets over the course of your marriage that is not true for the matrimonial home. In Ontario the matrimonial home is treated very differently and your spouse will share in the value of the matrimonial home no matter when it was acquired, no matter who contributed to it and no matter whose name is ***** *****

If you want to be able to do what you want with the house when you die, or if you separate, then you do need a marriage contract.

What if you don't sell all your assets so fast and she leaves you?

Marriage contracts prevent fights if the marriage ends and prevents claims to the estate.

If you die and she was dependent on you she can make a claim to the estate.
