Unfortunately anyone has the right to bring an action against another person for harm that they have suffered. So the person who was assaulted may sue your family member for the harm that arose out of the sexual assault.
However, unless the rest of the family was involved in the sexual assault in some way, they would not be named in the lawsuit.
I can strongly recommend that you hire a lawyer to defend your family member. This lawyer may be able to negotiate a private settlement with the person who was sexually assaulted. This means that you could avoid a court proceeding and further publication of the details surrounding the assault.

Are you appointed under a Continuing POA?
If so is the grantor of the POA mentally competent at this point in time?
If not what does the POA say about when it can be triggered?
