I am sorry to hear that this happened to you and your daughter.
Does the ticket allow her various options such as pleading guilty, pleading not guilty or some other midway option such as pleading guilty with an explanation?
She is guilty in the sense that she did drive a car that was not registered or licenced.
But there are strong mitigating circumstances here.
What I suggest is that you consider retaining a paralegal other person such as an ex- police officer who spends there days fighting tickets.
They will likely be able to make a deal with the Crown based on these facts.
If that doesn't work it would make sense for her to plead not guilty and testify in Court and you could testify on her behalf as well given what happened. She is 16 and likely the court will have sympathy and understand that she simply didn't know she should check before driving any car.
Frankly, no one at any age would have checked.
