I purchased a 2006 ford focus that has 81000 kms on

I purchased a 2006 ford focus that has 81000 kms on it, Prior to taking it in I put about 140 kms on it without a problem. I took it to a local shop to have the safety done so I could insure it and the shop said it needed some work done and quoted $560.00 + PST and GST when I asked what was required they said both outer tie rod ends, 2 marker lights a steering boot and left rear brake cylinder, the brake cylinder I found strange as before taking it in I relined the rear brakes and installed new drums as well and those are things I check when servicing the brakes and they were in good condition.
I declined there offer to do the work as I was able to do these repairs myself at a cost of $112.00.They were not happy.On the inspection sheet the odometer reading was 81641 kms when the repairs were done I road tested the vehicle and all was good so I returned to the shop and the odometer was at 81716 they asked that I leave the vehicle with them and they would fit it in when they could, this I did and about 3 hrs later I got a call to pick it up.The vehicle left the shop and within 3 kms the vehicle ran out of transmission fluid and just made it home. At first I thought it had blown a drive shaft seal but upon closer inspection it appeared to be the front seal. I contacted a transmission shop to have it repaired as I do not have all the tools required to do it myself but when they pulled the transmission out they found a hole through the transfer case caused by a sheered pin that had gone through the case.When I asked what would cause this to happen there answer was abuse caused by spinning the wheels at high speed on ice or if the vehicle is off the ground and the brakes are jammed on, since the transmission cannot slow down as fast as the wheels there is enough toque to sheer the pinion gear retaining pin.The cost of the replacement transmission was $1356.00. Do I have any recourse against the shop that did the safety as the damage to the transmission can only have happened there since the vehicle was fine when it went in for the inspection and fine when it went back for the re-inspection 3 days later, but runs out of after leaving there shop. I have whiteness as to how the vehicle was before it went for the safety and after the repairs for the safety were done and the fact that I just made it back home from the shop. Also I can get a statement from the transmission shop as to what they found and the lightly cause of the failure.
