It is not possible for a creditor to register a lien on title unless you consent or there is a judgment.
The limitation period has no relevance as it is about when they can sue you and they had to have done so.
I believe what must have happened is that they said they served you but you never were actually served and so they got a judgment by default. That means that you were deemed to have consented to the claim.
Then they went ahead and registered the lien on title which they were allowed to do to enforce the judgment.
What you can do now is bring an application to the court to have the default judgment set aside on the basis that you were never served. Then you can put in a statement of defence.
But if you actually owe the money then it may not make sense to do all this when you will still be ordered to pay and so if you do agree you owe the money then it may make the most sense just to contact the creditor, pay what you owe and have them remove the lien.
