VerifiedYou do not need a visa to come to visit in Canada.
However, you cannot move to Canada without legal status. So, the visit absolutely must be temporary and must appear to be temporary when you reach the border. You will not be allowed to enter Canada if you say you are planning to live in Canada for a year. The maximum amount of time you can come for a visit is six months. If you appear at the border looking like you are moving there because you have all these belongings it is very unlikely that you will be permitted to enter Canada.
You will have to be able to show strong ties to back home. Usually a visitor to Canada would show proof of employment, but you are retired. You should be able to show that you have a home in the US, perhaps family in the US, and other strong ties to the community.

You cannot apply for citizenship until you become a permanent resident and that is a very complex process and you need grounds to apply.
US citizens do not get TRVs. It is the same as green card holders.
