VerifiedYou must get divorced in Alberta as you get divorced where you live and not where you got married. You can apply jointly and so you would both sign the forms and you would file the forms at the courthouse. This is the simplest way to proceed, because you do not need to serve the documents on anyone, and it is also the fastest way to proceed. You will not need to see a judge. Rather, the papers will be taken up for the judge to sign and you will eventually be told that the judgement has been signed. The divorce takes effect 31 days after the judge signs it.
