I have been charged with theft under $5000 and given a notice

Customer Question

I have been charged with theft under $5000 and given a notice to appear. I ma very concerned about how this is going to effect me moving forward as I am a flight attendant and require both a passport and RAIC to maintain my job. What should I expect?

HelloIf the Crown approves the charge, then you will receive a package on your first day at court. Nothing happens that day and you will request and get an adjournment for say a month to consult a lawyer if even the Duty Counsel lawyer there.I assume no previous criminal record. Please do not panic. There are alternatives even if Crown proceeds. But, without identifying yourself, please tell me a bit about the facts. Thanks,Tom

No I have no previous record. I was caught by an LP officer with less than $200 worth of groceries. It's worth noting that I was caught one other time 5 years ago in a similar circumstance but was not charged.
