VerifiedI am so sorry to hear of this terrible situation. A small town police office does not have any more rights than any other police officer and no police officer can take and shoot a dog just because the officer wants to but this one is likely used to calling the shots. I suggest that you have a lawyer send him a letter and also to his supervisor stating that you will seek a court injunction if necessary or sue for significant damages if harm comes to this dog without a court order. The police officer will then not act. He may take this to by-law enforcement but then there is a legal appeal process if necessary.
