My home went into arrears last year. I dealt with the bank's lawyer and got everything paid up to date in October. The lawyer advised me to call the bank soon afterward to make sure they would start taking payments out of my account again. I did, but the bank said I still owed money. I called the lawyer, they said I had paid in full and they had closed the case. I called the bank, they couldn't figure out where these extra charges were coming from and said someone would call me. After talking to over 20 different people I never did receive a call. I did finally convince them to start taking payments out of my account again. The bank would call intermittently and tell me that I owed the previous amount, I would ask why and where these payments came from, they would tell me someone would get a hold of me to tell me. In December, they stopped taking payments out of my account and sent me into foreclosure again. I talked with the new lawyer and they had said that the previous lawyer made a mistake calculating the previous amount and that's why I was being charged this new amount. Fair enough...it was money that I owed, so I paid it. Now this new lawyer is asking for over $2100 in lawyers fees. My question is, this second foreclosure and money owing is not my fault, yes I owe it, yes I have paid it, why am I responsible for these fees if it was the previous lawyer's fault? Is there anything I can do about this or do I need to suck it up and pay the $2100? If I simply pay the arrears and do not pay the lawyer fees what will happen? Thank you.
