Hi, i am a non Canadian Resident applying for a mortgage with one of the banks here with a 35% downpayment (which is the rule for non canadian residents), the bank contacted me telling me that there was a judgement issued by the Regie Du Logement in Montreal for non payment of past rent (i was living in montreal between 2003-2008) my old landlord is claiming that i have not paid the last month rent before i leave (while i did, unfortunately i don't have any proofs or receipts of payment since back then).
Now the judgement was issued in Dec 2010, and i only knew about it now, and i tried to contact the old landlord, however, i was told that the building was sold out and a new landlord management is in charge now, and they don't know anything about my case.
Two questions:
1) If i ignore this judgement, what are the consequences? the amount is only $1111 plus fees so not more than $1500.
2) If i can't ignore this judgement, how and where and to whom do i need to make a payment? apparently there was a deadline of 10 days to come for a hearing in the court but i was not living in montreal (still not living here)
Im just buying real estate in montreal now as an investment, but i don't live here.
