was stopped outside a grocery store by a plain clothes male person who never identified themselves but asked to see my receipt for items I already had put inside my vehicle, my partner had purchased the items and had left the parking lot before me with the receipt. I asked what was wrong when he said he finally said he was security as I explained my situation, he said di not retain me, call for another person to help him, or contact the police while I was still in the parking lot with him standing there, he let me leave and all he said was bring me that receipt when your partner returns from his out of province work. The receipt is no longer available as my partner washed his work clothes and it was completely destroyed. Now I do not know what to do? Can I still be charged if I do not provide the receipt? Am I facing charges at this point?? I was not detained etc, does this mean I can still face charges by the grocery store if I do not go back in with the receipt? I was not handed a notice or anything, no badge was shown to me to identify the plain clothed security personal. Since I was not detained or charged with shoplifting, does this mean I am free and clear?
