So when you say that i should discuss this with him and in fact tell him that if he doesn't improve he might be dismissed. Do you mean relating to time off, job performance and then if things don't improve could i terminate for cause at that point or could i give him written notice of termination?

If i was to terminate with severance pay, what in your opinion would be reasonable to avoid a suet, 1 week for every year, plus maybe 5,6-10 weeks additional?

And just to be clear can his health and time nissed be part of his whole job performance situation.

Hi, back to this conversation. Would this in your opinion be an acceptable warning letter in Ontario Canada.

DISCIPLINARY WARNING LETTER

Dear XXXXX,

This letter is to draw your attention to unsatisfactory aspects of your current job
performance.

Over the last few years your level of leadership of the production staff as Lead hand/Supervisor has been tenuous at best and I have tried to work with you in many areas, giving you ideas to help you improve your communication and managerial skills in an attempt to help you gain the respect of the production staff.

Unfortunately over the last several months things seem to have gotten worse and what I’m hearing from your staff is concerning me to point that I fear some employee’s may start to look for alternative employment.

Telling people that you don’t need to work or you don’t care about what is going on, is not an acceptable level of leadership here or anywhere for that matter.

There also seems to be some issues around maintenance of the equipment, which you are also responsible for. This causes frustration for the staff having to work on equipment when it is not functioning properly and they are pushed to get things done that they feel are not up to the company quality expectations or their own.

People shouldn’t have to work in an environment where they are frustrated trying to do their job.

You would agree that we have had similar discussion many times over the last year or so, but now I have no choice but to give you a Disciplinary Warning Letter.

I will continue to assist you in any reasonable way to help you meet the Company’s requirements. However, if your job performance does not significantly improve over the next couple of months I may need to resort to more serious action, such as a demotion from lead hand back to working on the line, which would also include a reduction in your wages, or terminate your employment all together.

i was only asking because i haven't had to discipline anyone in forever and you hear different things from people, like you can't threaten anyone with termination?? I'm not looking to hold you to legal advise other than is this kind letter acceptable. i need to be able to express what he needs to change or else??? correct??
