My uncle died 3 or 4 years ago. My un le was single and not well known to us. The nurse at the hospital said we were responsible for funeral arrangements. My father signed a contract with a funeral home. We renounced succission.the funeral employee said they would claim the amount from regie des rentes so we would not have to. They did not. At time amount owing was 2600$ we do have a lawyer in file. My father has several brothers and sisters who should all be held responsible according to quebec law.the funeral home sent him papers last year for small claims courts for about 5000$ dads lawyer said he did not have to go to court. A year later he just received more papers to go to court but this time in a government envelloppe. Im worried and scared.the funeral director here is particularly wealthy and his brother is a lawyer .plus we never received any mise en demeure before he started charging inTerest. Lawyer said it would take a long time but its starting to get ridiculous.as far as i know familly members have been notified. Have not receive a phone call even.
