we were month to month. landlord wants rent for October and November

You missed my second question.

a truck , travel trailer and 2 motorcyles. various other small items like big screen tvs. no stocks, bonds or land

It would not make sense to declare bankruptcy but perhaps threaten it.

Why not say you will pay a certain portion so long as the landlord signs a release or else you won't pay a thing and will declare bankruptcy if necessary?
