That being said, you may want to send them a letter with your file number (if you have it) explaining that you applied for a USA study visa several years ago but it was rejected and you lost the passport and do not have the details of the rejection.
This letter could cause you to not get the study permit, but at least you would have disclosed the information and therefore have your record straight for future applications.
