There is no single type of document or evidence that would prove such a matter. The evidence required is any that would satisfy a human rights commission that there had been discrimination based on gender. The legal test is based on balance of probabilities, which means that the commission has to be satisfied that it is more likely than not that discrimination occurred. They would be able to consider evidence of testimony from affected workers detailing heir personal experiences or knowledge, and evidence regarding the statistics of the number of males versus females, and promotions in each group. If there are no factors such as different training or qualifications that indicate the reason for many more men being promoted, then that could be sufficient to leave a commission concluding that the only remaining explanation is gender discrimination. That is circumstantial evidence ( as opposed to very direct evidence , such as a manager saying "I won't promote women". Circumstantial evidence can be used as proof when it is more likely as an explanation then any alternative explanation.

Your experience alone may not amount to much- but if the same thing is being experienced time and time again by many other women in the same situation, then that is more likely to point to discrimination as a cause. So a starting point may be in trying to see who else with you has experienced similar issues and see if you can apply at the same time to the provincial human rights commission- strength in numbers.
