This answer was rated:

If you owe credit card debt and you are on UIC because you lost your full time job, you have written the companies explaining your situation, they have put you in credit collection and are now taking you to court, If you pay $25.00 or something every month until you get another full time job will that stop the court proceedings or garnishing your wages??
Also, once you have a full time job can you continue to pay more than $25.00 but less than the minumum balance (as it is too high) and if you do so will that stop the garnish of your wages?
Thank you for your question.

Before I begin I want to explain a bit about how the site works.

It may be that I will find that I need to gather further information from you. As well, it's quite possible that you may feel the need to ask me additional questions for further clarification. Please do not worry that you will be charged additionally if I ask you questions or if you need to ask me questions. That is not at all how the site works.

As well, please understand that as a careful lawyer I will always give you an honest answer even if the answer is sometimes not what you were hoping for.

Finally, as we go through the process please do not feel rushed if I ask you a question. You are always free to take your time to gather more information before you post back. As well, please understand that even after you rate me the post will not lock and you could always come back for further clarification if you think of something a bit later on down the road.

I am sorry you are in this difficult situation.

Unfortunately, it will not help to make a payment each month unless the creditor agrees.

This will not stop the lawsuit because you owe the money.

And it will not stop any garnishment once the Judgment is obtained.

So the best approach is to either try and make a deal with the creditor or if you do not have much in the way of assets to speak to a Trustee in Bankruptcy about the idea of declaring bankruptcy.

You can do that for free.

Let me know if you need any further clarification.
