My townhouse property management company issued form 14 and
Hi there! My townhouse property management company issued form 14 and started charging late payment fee, the debt now is #302.57. I don't think this is fair. The company's only accepted form of payment is via cheques. I initially had only 12 cheques. When I moved, on April 1st, the management company asked me to send the cheques and since they didn't tell me they are going to change the management fee in 2 months, I sent all 12 cheques in advance - it is quite an effort to sign 12 cheques, then visit a post office and send them via tracked mail. It also costs ~$17. After the company received the cheques they told me that the fees are going up and they will use only 2 cheques, and I will have to send more cheques with the new increased amount. When this all was happening I was disabled and was waiting for my surgery, so every physical activity was not easy for me. I asked several times if I could do bank transfer or Interac payments, but the answer was no. To send more cheques I had to order a new cheque book from the bank. Due to COVID it took the bank about 30 days to deliver a new cheque book. Because I moved, they couldn't send it to my new address, so I had to go to the bank office downtown to pick the new cheques. By the time the cheques were delivered I had my surgery on June 7th. The recovery period is about 2 months. I finally sent the new cheques on August 21st. but the management company has already issues the Form #14 and started charging late payment fee. I don't hink this is fair because - I have initially sent funds for more than 11 months, but the company decided to return the cheques without consulting with me - nobody told me that the fees are going up - I did offer to pay via bank or interac but that suggestion was declined. - the payment method is quite archaic and I didn't have many cheques available. Can you please help sort it out? … read more
