As she has not yet filed any police reports with this false info, or had any legal proceedings commenced against you, there would be no causes of action arising on the grounds of malicious prosecution (re maliciously instituting or causing to be instituted legal proceedings against you) or criminal offence of public mischief (re filing a false police report. If she ultimately has charges laid against you, then one or both of the above may be appropriate. However, until that point, neither of the above are appropriate.

That being said, even though she has yet to file any report or have proceedings commenced against you, she is still damaging your reputation by speading these rumours. As such, it would seem as though you have a valid cause of action to sue her for Slander (i.e. verbal defamation). You must commence such an action within 2 years of the slandering, otherwise you may be statute-barred from suing her. The criminal lawyer who advised you is probably concerned that a civil action may aggravate her into formally having criminal charges laid against you for the (false) sexual assault accusations). I do not necessarily disagree with his view / advice, but the above info should give you sufficient details to make an informed decision as to how, if at all, you wish to proceed / defend yourself and seek legal recourse.
