I purchased a used 2002 Acura TL at a car dealership that sells new and used vehicles in Richmond BC Canada. The vehicle was purchased on October 30 2012 it is now January 20 2013. The mileage was 134,687 and now at 138,500. The mileage was fairly low for a ten year old car and when we test drove the vehicle prior to purchase no problems were observed. Now with only 3,813 Kms put on the car in just under three months there is now an obvious transmission problem (its an automatic) which in itself is unusual considering the quality, make and model coupled with the low mileage for a ten year old car. We were shown a mechanical report on the vehicle which did not indicate a problem with the transmission and in fact this form may have also stated that the transmission fluid was changed. Unfortunately we were not provided this form upon receipt of the car when we purchased it.

The car was immediately taken to a vehicle repair station and we had the transmission fluid flushed and changed and our record shows that the transmission fluid was very dirty and quite brown. This flush did not fix the problem and it is no longer safe to drive. I want to know if auto dealers must warrant used cars under law for a specific amount of time and/or if we are able to seek compensation from the dealer to have this fixed.
