If you were actually deported and this means there was an actual deportation order as opposed to being given a departure order or exclusion order, then you need to apply for an Authorization to Return to Canada (ARC).

So apply for the ARC now.

If you do and it's granted you don't need to be terrified.

As you are a US citizen you don't need a visa to visit so you simply have to apply for the ARC.

You should contact the closest Canada Visa office as each has its own forms.
