both, cpp i have a Rsp account but it is doing very poorly right now with the economy

Essentially all your assets and debts will be shared and after such a lengthy marriage you incomes should be equalized.

But if the only way he can get his share of the assets is to sell the house you will be required to so unless he agrees to let you hold off on this.

I realize that I want to know where I stand with my home. Do I have to agree to selling if I will have to get another place to say and this will be very difficult if our house sells at say 400 thousand I would have difficulty getting a condo at 200 thousand.

If the two of you cannot come to an agreement he will be able to get a Court Order for the sale of the house.

He will be entitled to leave this marriage with half the value of the assets.

If you can afford to buy him out by taking a mortgage that would work too.

And if he wants a divorce after a one year separation he can get one. He does not need your consent.
