being sued for $19,523.45. I have a home with a $234,000 mortgage.

Is there equity in your home?

My assessement for this year was approx. $300,000.00

This is a quite a concern then because they can get a Judgment and then seize and sell the house.
There is enough equity to satisfy the debt.
And there is enough equity that you would lose your house if you declared bankruptcy.
I think that you should consult with a Trustee in Bankruptcy and talk about a consumer proposal.
And in the meantime I think you should put in a Statement of Defence to you buy yourself some more time.
