The way this works is that there is no such thin as adverse possession under the Land Titles system.

Most of Ontario is under the Land Titles system now so it would matter how long the driveway has been there and whether title could have been acquired through adverse possession before the land was transferred to this system.

For this reason the most prudent thing to do is really to sit down, face to face, with a local real estate lawyer who can quickly do a title search online and then you would not clearly where you stand almost at once.

The thing with adverse possession is that the possession cannot be with permission.

So if they let someone occupy their land that person can never get title to it.
